Ellie Douglas Interview

Ellie Douglas is addicted to horror, everything about it she loves. She enjoys creating strong characters that rise to the top from ordinary lives. Her love affair with horror has seen her produce three award winning horror books. Born and raised in New Zealand, a mother and wife who donates what spare time she has into volunteer work with Autistic children.

What inspired you to write?
It was my desire to scare readers that prompted and inspired me to write. As well as my love for stories and wanting to write something that no one else had.

Was your inspiration sudden, or did it take time?
It built over the years.

Did you use an outline, or just write your story from start to finish?
I just wrote the story from start to finish.

Do you work alone, or get encouragement from family and friends?
I work alone.

What was the most difficult part of writing your book?
Getting the location right. Because I live in New Zealand and my book's location was set in America. I had to make sure I had it all correct and that meant a lot of research which I really enjoyed.

What was the most enjoyable aspect of writing your book?
The most enjoyable aspect of writing my book was actually finishing it.

Are you working on a new book at the moment?
Yes I'm working on two more books. An anthology and a novel both due out very soon.

Do you have any book giveaways, contests or events coming up?

What gets in the way of your creativity?
Noise. I need silence when I'm working.

What strategies do you use to deal with criticism?
It will depend on the criticism, some I can learn from, and some I will ignore.

What is your favorite/worst childhood memory?
Worst childhood memory: Falling off my push bike at the tender age of seven. I went over the handle bars and scared my arms up pretty badly.
Favorite childhood memory: Going on an plane for the fist time at the age of nine.

Do you have a favorite quote?
Yes I do. My favorite quote is: Smile always.

Misery by Stephen King

Is there a talent you wish you had?
I don't wish for any :)

What’s something about you that would surprise us?
It may surprise you to know that I'm also a graphic artist making book covers for other authors :) as well as designing web pages, banners for twitter, FaceBook, and making logo's and I also have created adult coloring books and developed a slot game which can be found on the itunes https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slinfy.infinityslot
