Camera Gear We Use for Our Travels

Hi! We’re Candy and Crystal. We’re sisters who grew up as military brats and spent the first half of our lives in Japan. The majority of our family resides in Japan, but we ventured out and have spent the second half of our lives mainly in the United States. We both love traveling and have always documented our travels, so we decided it was time to share our travel experiences with the rest of the world.

We have been asked a lot about what camera gear we use for our travels and since we use a combination of cameras and lenses, we wanted to break it down for our readers in more detail. Here is a list of all the camera gear we use on our travel adventures:

Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR Camera

Canon 5D Mark III

I've had this camera for at least 4 years and it's still a great camera. It's a heavy duty DSLR camera that weighs about 2 pounds and I usually use my 50mm f/1.4 lens or 70-200mm f/ 2.8 lens with it. There’s actually a newer version out now, the Mark IV, but this camera still works flawlessly for what we need. The 5D Mark III has a 22MP full frame sensor and shoots HD video.

The thing that attracted me the most about the Sony a7S II was that I could interchange any lenses with the Metabones Lens Adapter. I didn’t want to have to get a whole set of new lenses, so this was the perfect solution as I’m able to use my Canon lenses.

Whenever Candy and I are traveling together, she usually uses this camera as it’s easy to use and shoots great photos on the automatic setting. You can also shoot in Manual, but a lot of the time, we need to get a shot instantly and since this camera does an excellent job of calculating the lighting and colors in auto mode, it’s a little easier to use.

It also one of the best cameras out there for low light performance and this feature comes
