The Road To Del Rio

Born in Turlock, California in 1964, Richard Paolinelli began his writing career as a freelance writer in 1984 in Odessa, TX and gained his first fiction credit serving as the lead writer for the first two issues of the Elite Comics sci-fi/fantasy series, Seadragon.

One thing I want to start doing – when I’m not fighting off the Chinese Bot Troll Army of Arcadia – is to start talking about the path my books have taken from initial concept to final production.

So we’ll start off with the recently concluded Jack Del Rio series. The initial idea was generated shortly after the 1996 Presidential election concluded here in the United States. I got to thinking that the next time a vote for this office would be held the winner would be the first President sworn into office in the 21st Century.

Which got me to thinking what would happen if a certain former superpower had tried to influence the outcome and get someone into the Oval Office under their control. Remember, this idea hit me back in 1997, a full 19 years before our recently concluded 2016 election cycle. Talk about my crystal ball being at 100%.

Back to 1997. A new movie production company was just getting started and was looking for scripts. So I put together a script called, Inauguration Day, with a Special Agent of the FBI discovering a plot to overthrow the U.S. Government that was set to be triggered when the next President was sworn into office in just seven days.
