This column is dedicated to one of the highest art forms in the sphere of human communication—Poetry. Nothing is nobler than the expression of human emotion. All poetry is perfect, no matter what the format or the background of the poet. A voice is a voice. With poetry, you get more than words. You get rhythm, you get sound, you get silence, you get mood—you get emotion. What more can you ask? This column is also dedicated to all the people who have ever lived, those here now, and those yet to come. God bless the poets among you. They carry the soul of the world.

A Meditation

The relaxation and peace of a focused mind is a unique experience. I know. When I was thirteen, my dentist uncle learned hypnosis so he could drill the teeth of pregnant women without anesthetic and without pain. He used me to make sure he had mastered the technique. Fortunately, he did.

I see a field of windblown grass

My vision is focused

My sight is keen

I drill down to a single blade

My mind is open

I sense the green

I am within the thin leaf’s pore

A structured space

An open door

No thought may enter

This realm of peace

The body’s tension

Is in release

A restful knowing

Forms a silent stream

A gentle flowing of a conscious dream

I am here

I am there
