This column is dedicated to one of the highest art forms in the sphere of human communication—Poetry. Nothing is nobler than the expression of human emotion. All poetry is perfect, no matter what the format or the background of the poet. A voice is a voice. With poetry, you get more than words. You get rhythm, you get sound, you get silence, you get mood—you get emotion. What more can you ask? This column is also dedicated to all the people who have ever lived, those here now, and those yet to come. God bless the poets among you. They carry the soul of the world.

Each Other

At the core of every relationship, even casual ones, is the issue of trust. How much should I open up to someone else? The risk of being hurt lies on the other side of friendship and love. We are guided by instinct and experience.

Who are you?
Who am I?
Should we be honest
Or should we lie?

If I show myself,
Can I rely
That you won’t see me
Through a judging eye?

Will your response
Be in kind?
Will we each have knowledge
Of the other’s mind?

Are the words I speak
Crystal clear?
Or is there a filter
Between lips and ear?

Who will be first to
Take a chance
As we begin
Our verbal dance?

As we’ll always be,
I have no choice but
To trust you with me.
